Latif Gusein ogly Kerimov

People's artist of the Republic, Honoured Art Worker of the Azerbaijan SSR, USSR State Prize Laureate, Doctor of arts. - Latif Gusein ogly Kerimov (1906, Shusha) - is an artist of the great creative diapason. Beind a gifted master and eminent artist-ornamentalist, he is a founder of the carpet-making art of the Soviet Azerbaijan. Splendid topical and ornamental carpets, highly artistic places of various branches of the decorative-applied art, book designs and other masterpreces, created by Latif Kerimov, were successfully displayed at the personal exhibitions in Moscow (1954), Baku (1976) and Tbilisi (1978).

Latif Kerimov is a unique specialist of the carpet-making art, he is a researcher and a connoisseur of the Fastern carpets, an outstanding artist, technologist and splendid master of the carpet-making.

Being a leader of the "Azerkhalcha" Association for more than 50 years, Latif Kerimov has trained a pleidad of artists and masters in the carpet-making art created dozens of ornamental and topical carpets. For many years Latif Kerimov is a Head of the department of "Artistic Textiles" in the Institute of Arts, named after M Aliev.

Heading the Department of Decorative - Applied Arts of the Institute of Architecture and Art of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerb. SSR He restored a large quantity of lost carpet compositions and created a fundamental 4 - volume monograph "Azerbaijanian Carpet".
